Shire Reeve's Seax

Overall Length: 9 ¼ inch

This knife is based on early medieval knives used across Europe, but popularized in modern times by the Viking and Saxon cultures. The Seax, and it’s accompanying sheath, represent the kind of blade that a well to do commoner might use. The pattern welded, or damascus steel, spine is forge welded to the high carbon steel on the edge, creating a nice contrast between polished and patterned steel. The pewter bolster and horn spacer also add a touch of decoration, but not so much that the local Lord would be jealous!
A Reeve is an administrative official serving the king or a lesser lord in a variety of roles. The title of Shire Reeve eventual became the word we use today: Sheriff.
