This blade is as close to historically accurate as you are ever likely to find. The outer layers of steel are known as Wrought Iron. Wrought Irons high silica content gives it the striking patterns you see on the blade. Forge welded into the center of the blade is a high carbon steel. As the edge is ground to sharpness, the high carbon is exposed giving is a blade that has a hard edge, but a soft spine.
The name “Hepti-Seax” means handled knife. In this case a knife that handles extremely well. It is modeled after the Anglo-Saxon seax, used as both a weapon and an every day tool.
